Rooted Relations

This work from 2025 seems to emerge from the floor and/or wall. Perhaps one might imagine that the units are continuing ‘underground’, deliberately humble and grounded. This piece began in wonder as I discovered Red alder roots with symbiont ‘Frankia’ nodules in a local forest. I responded to this inspiration in a highly abstracted way. The symbiotic relationships between forest roots and their many bacterial companions exemplify the interactions that abound in the natural world. Mutual support systems are what makes species and individuals thrive – including us humans.

The difference in light, placement and surroundings affect great how the work looks.
