This small series of four ‘Songs from the Soil’ (20×20 cm) from 2024 is inspired by the many complex connections that plants, fungi and other creatures make underground. I first made various prints with interwoven wheat roots and then layered other gently dyed roots on top of the ensuing prints.
Here I use a more painterly approach to wonder at the inherent connectivity in nature. The colours are hinting at an underworld that is foreign to most of us. I wonder if the dependence between the many soil dwellers is perhaps not so different from our human experience with interconnectedness.
