Plant Memory I-V

The individual units of this small series (2022) are inspired by found marks on the skins of avocados. The “Alligator skin” on an avocado is a brown, netlike or scabby appearance that affects the fruit’s appearance but is does not change the quality of the avocado flesh. Even so, some customers avoid these beautiful specimens.

To me the scars are like a symbolic language. It speaks of an event that the avocado plant has experienced and perhaps a secret memory kept by the plants. In this series I am interested in how we directly and indirectly depend on plants for nourishment and yet we are suffering from acute ‘plant blindness’, not truly seeing the plants in all their glory.
